Minecraft: Server news and update

Hey everyone. The Minecraft server has now been updated to 1.2.5. Over the last few weeks I’ve also been tweaking a few things to make the server more stable. For 2 weeks now, the server has been up 24/7 without a crash, so it is safe to say that it’ll remain that way.

Brick-Force Beta review

Welcome to Brick Force!
(Open image)

This is just a “quick” review of Brick-Force Beta. It is not a full fledged review, it just covers some aspects of the game that I was exposed to during my first hours of gameplay. It is still quite lengthy, though!

Brick-Force is a First-Person game that combines building with an action packed battle mode. It is essentially a first person shooter, with the option of creating and editing maps. Creation of maps is highly similar to Minecraft, making it very easy and fun to make maps. Be aware though, if you’re a Minecraft player you might get dizzy with the controls at first – unlike Minecraft, the left mouse button is used place blocks and the right is to destroy them. Additionally, you cannot hold down left click to rapidly place blocks.

Find out more about gameplay, items, weapons by clicking “Read more” below.

A few updates…

There have been a few, minor changes to the website – and there will be major changes in the future.

Firstly, I’ve deleted some posts which I considered low-quality, immature or just not worth being there. I mean, not all posts are high quality, but you get what I mean! The Reddit post is gone, yes… turns out I ended up with 4 up votes on Reddit somehow. I’m still not very fond of getting bashed for my hard work, though.

Minecraft: Bukkit officially joins Mojang!

Bukkit and Mojang!

Back in November of last year, the Bukkit team was invited for MineCon. They were provided with their very own booth and panel and held a Q&A session. Later that year they were invited to Mojang’s office in Stockholm, Sweden. Amongst activities such as enjoying pizza, beer and steak with Mojang, the Bukkit team also had the privilege to witness Cobalt’s launch. However, the real motive behind the visit was to discuss Minecraft’s future – more specifically, the future of modding in Minecraft.

Linux: Changing tab size in Vi/Vim

Terminal window

Vi(m) is a great text editor, very efficient and powerful once you get to learn it. It is essential to learn at least its basics, for when you don’t have any other choice in terms of text editing (e.g. newly installed Linux distros, etc.)

However, one flaw of this text editor is that, being a terminal based editor, its default tabsize is 8 spaces. If you work with programming languages, particularly Python, it is definitely a good idea to change the tabsize to 4 spaces. There’s an easy and quick way to do so.
